Mrs. Justus had read about the Seattle area in the magazine: Scientific American. She was drawn to the area by the article's description of salmon-run creeks and rivers.

Later, she and her husband (George) purchased 14+ acres of land in Federal Way; the Hylebos Creek runs through the middle of the property, and salmon do migrate up the creek!
