Nano & Apu were married. They were good and kind to each other. Anyone could tell that they were very much in love. Apu liked to spoil Nano; she had a lot of beautiful jewelry that he enjoyed giving her. And, she made sure that he had the things that he liked, like Papaya every morning for breakfast.

Their marriage was very modern for the time. They were friends and partners in life: they each pursued their passions. Typical male/female roles didn't necessarily apply, like the woman doing all the cooking. Apu would make Goulash or Chicken Paprikash for the whole family. (In fact, the recipe that Susan Hancock has for Chicken Paprikash comes from the notes she took while he made it.)
